Oil level in hydraulic reservoir has been varied to study its undesirable effect on oil temperature. The study shows that the initial air cushion volume as well as its fluctuations, affect the presseur inside; thus aertion, cavitation and heat and mass transfer would be influenced. These condtions play the main role in optimizing the oil level in the reservoir. Taking into consideration the other working conditions (dischanges, temperature, oil properties...etc.), it was found that both high and low oil level would increase the working oil temperature.
